Nathaniel Lee Scott was born in Birmingham, Alabama on March 27, 1917 to James and Annie Will Scott. He grew up in West Virginia, living in various towns as his father worked in the coal mines. Education was a value in his family and Nathaniel met the expectation through graduating from Monongalia High School. During his school days, Dean Martin was a classmate and acquaintance. He attended Sinclair Community College as well. He is the eldest son of eleven children and he cherishes his “big brother” status with his two remaining siblings, Lloyd and Dolores.
In 1941, Nathaniel joined the Army, where he served for two years during World War II. After enlisting he entered into holy matrimony with Virginia Henderson on July 27, 1942. Nathaniel’s bride, “Ginny” accepted employment at, what is now known as, Wright-Patterson AFB in Fairborn, Ohio. Upon receiving an honorable discharge, Nathaniel relocated to Dayton, Ohio and began employment with Frigidaire as a Tool Grinder. This move became the catalyst for the rest of his immediate family to settle in the area. During the course of his employment with Frigidaire it ultimately became General Motors and he retired after 40 years of service.
Nathaniel and his wife enjoyed life in Dayton, purchasing a home on Germantown Pike in Jefferson Township, where he continues to reside. Nathaniel is a huge Cincinnati Reds fan and he is also a season ticket holder of the Dayton Dragon’s. Although, Nathaniel and Ginny never had children, they were always family oriented and were instrumental in helping their siblings, nieces, nephews and other relatives to pursue their dreams of higher education and creating a better life for themselves. Sadly, his beloved Virginia passed away in 1989. Nathaniel has had a long and industrious life. He remains active in his church, Wayman Chapel A.M.E. where he has served in a variety of capacities. He was blessed to have attended the Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. and is proud of having been able to shake hands with the former Senator Bob Dole.
Nathaniel looks forward to celebrating 100 years of life with his family, friends and acquaintances and is excited for whatever the next 100 years brings!
