FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: Who is responsible for repair/replacement of sidewalks, curbs, driveway & lane approaches, tile under the driveway and any other structure in front of my home or vacant property?

A: The individual homeowner/property owner is fully responsible for making repairs and/or replacing any of the items above, and must fund all of the repairs, per state regulations. The township is not responsible for items listed above. The township is responsible for maintenance of sewers and/or catch basins found in the road right of way; from curb outward to roadway.

Q: I have water standing in my yard. Can the Township help solve my problem?

A: Although townships may not perform work on private property, we will be glad to meet with you to provide suggestions on solving your drainage problems.

Q: My neighbor's sump pump discharges into my yard. What can I do about it?

A: The Township encourages all property owners to connect their sump pumps to the storm sewer system. Newer plats have a drain underneath the curb which can be used for this purpose. Residents in slightly older neighborhoods can connect to any nearby catch basin. If your neighbor is not cooperative in fixing the problem, try contacting the Montgomery County Combined Health District at 937- 225-4362.

Q: What type of work needs a permit?

A: Generally, most types of work done by a contractor within 12 feet of the edge of the roadway require a permit. The current permit schedule is established by Trustees. Remember that sprinkler systems, invisible fences and landscaping should be kept fifteen feet away from the street to minimize possible damages during road improvements or utility work.

Q: Who picks up dead animals from the street?

A: The Road Department will dispose of dead animals that are found on a Township road. Montgomery County and ODOT also pick up carcasses on their respective roads. ODOT picks up carcasses along state routes. If the animal is located in your yard, you may have to dispose of it in a plastic bag in your trash.

Q: Who is responsible for the maintenance of Curb, Sidewalk, Driveway Approaches, Driveway Culverts, and Drain Pipes, any trees, bushes, or foliage, and also Mailboxes and Landscaping along Township owned Roadways and Streets and in and outside of the Road Right of way?

A: The property owner is responsible 100% both Legally and Financially to maintain all curbs, Sidewalk, Driveway Approaches and Drain Pipes, any trees, bushes, and foliage, as well as Mailboxes and Landscaping that are in the Right of way or behind the right of way.

The Township is Legally responsible for the Stormwater System and the Roadway Maintenance from “Curb to Curb", or from "Ditch to Ditch" along roadways.
