JEFFERSON TOWNSHIP LEVY INFORMATION
Jefferson Township residents will have the opportunity to vote on two important levies at the upcoming election on November 5, 2024.
The 7.0 mill levy for Current Expenses and the 10.0 mill levy for Roads and Bridges will be on the ballot. Your vote will help determine the future funding and quality of essential services and infrastructure in Jefferson Township.
Proposed 7.0 Mill Levy for Current Expenses
Purpose of the Levy:
The 7.0 mill levy for Current Expenses is designed to ensure that Jefferson Township can continue to provide essential services to its residents. This levy will support a wide range of general operating costs that are crucial for maintaining and improving the quality of life in our community.
Levy Duration:
The levy will be in place for a period of five years, providing stable funding from 2025 through 2030
Projected Use of Funds:
If approved, the levy is projected to generate $761,000 annually, based on the current taxable value of $108,618,500. The funds from this levy will be allocated towards:
- Code Enforcement: Increasing efforts to ensure properties are maintained according to township regulations, thereby enhancing neighborhood safety and aesthetics.
- Demolition of Properties: Removing dilapidated and abandoned buildings to improve community safety and attractiveness.
- Parks and Recreation: Updating equipment and expanding offerings at Jefferson Township parks to provide better recreational opportunities for all ages, including senior activities.
- Administrative Services: Ensuring the efficient operation of township services, including administrative support and customer service for residents.
Cost to Homeowners:
The levy will amount to $245.00 per $100,000 of the county auditor's appraised value of a home. This breaks down to approximately $20.42 per month for each $100,000 of appraised home value.
Proposed 10.0 Mill Levy for Road and Bridges
Purpose of the Levy:
The 10.0 mill levy for Road and Bridges is specifically aimed at maintaining and improving the transportation infrastructure within Jefferson Township. This levy will address the critical needs for repairing, upgrading, and maintaining our roads to ensure safe and efficient travel for all residents.
Levy Duration:
The levy will be in place for a period of five years, providing stable funding from 2025 through 2030.
Projected Use of Funds:
If approved, the levy is projected to generate $1,087,000 annually, based on the current taxable value of $108,618,500. The funds from this levy will be allocated towards:
- Road Repairs: Addressing potholes, cracks, and other surface damage to ensure smooth and safe driving conditions.
- New Projects: Funding for resurfacing road projects to accommodate growth and improve traffic flow.
- Winter Services: Enhanced snow removal and salting services to keep roads safe during winter months.
Cost to Homeowners:
The levy will amount to $350.00 per $100,000 of the county auditor's appraised value of a home. This breaks down to approximately $29.17 per month for each $100,000 of appraised home value.
