SNOW REMOVAL PRIORITY ROUTES

OVERVIEW Jefferson Township Road Department maintains a systematic approach to snow and ice removal. Our crews work diligently during winter weather events to keep roads passable and safe. Below is our priority system for snow removal operations.


PRIORITY CLASSIFICATIONS

PRIORITY 1: EMERGENCY & MAIN ROUTES

• Emergency access routes

• School bus routes

• Hills and bridges

• Major intersections

• Main arterial roads


Expected Service: Continuous plowing and treatment during storm events


PRIORITY 2: SECONDARY ROADS

• Collector streets

• Higher traffic residential streets

• Commercial areas

• Roads connecting to main arteries


Expected Service: Begin after 2" accumulation, following Priority 1 routes



PRIORITY 3: RESIDENTIAL AREAS

• Neighborhood streets

• Cul-de-sacs

• Low traffic areas


Expected Service: Begin after Priority 1 and 2 routes are maintained safe


OPERATIONAL NOTES

• Crews work 12-hour shifts during snow events

• Main routes may require multiple passes • Residential areas cleared after primary routes are safe

• Cul-de-sacs require additional time due to limited space


RESIDENT RESPONSIBILITIES

Vehicle Management:

• Remove all vehicles from streets

• Park in driveways or designated areas

• Vehicles left on streets may be towed or plowed in


Property Maintenance:

• Clear sidewalks within 24 hours of snowfall end

• Clear around fire hydrants

• Don't push snow into roadways

• Clear storm drains near your property


Safety Practices:

• Maintain safe distance from plows

• Don't pass snow plows

• Allow extra travel time

• Check on elderly neighbors


IMPORTANT REMINDERS

During Snow Events:

• Stay off roads if possible

• Emergency vehicles and plows need clear access

• Main routes may be plowed multiple times

• Side streets are cleared after main routes are safe

• Snow removal is prioritized based on safety needs

• Response times vary based on storm intensity

• Multiple passes may be needed for heavy snowfall
