JEFFERSON TOWNSHIP LEVY INFORMATION

Proposed 6.0 Mill Road & Bridge Levy

Election Date: November 4, 2025

Last Road Levy Passed: May 8, 2001

Proposed 6.0 Mill Levy for Road and Bridges

Purpose of the Levy:

Jefferson Township is considering a 6.0 mill Road and Bridge Levy to fund the maintenance and improvement of local roads and bridges. This funding would allow the Township to address current road conditions, support resurfacing projects, and ensure safer travel throughout all neighborhoods.

Levy Duration:

The proposed levy would be in effect for five years (2026–2031) and would provide a consistent source of revenue dedicated solely to road and bridge improvements.

Projected Use of Funds:

If approved, the levy would generate approximately $661,534 annually based on the current township tax valuation. These funds would support:

  • Road Repairs: Repairing potholes, cracks, and other road damage.
  • New Projects: Upgrading surfaces to extend road life and improve safety.
  • Winter Services: Continued snow removal, salting, and cold-weather safety services.

The Township plans to prioritize improvements through a public-facing 7-Year Road Repair Plan, targeting the most critical streets in each precinct.

Cost to Homeowners:

The levy would cost approximately $210 per year for a home valued at $100,000, based on the County Auditor’s appraised value. This translates to about $17.50 per month to support road maintenance and winter safety efforts.

 Why This Levy?

  • Over 69% of township roads are rated “fair or worse” in condition
  • The last levy dedicated to roads was passed over 20 years ago
  • Current funding only allows one street per year to be resurfaced
  • A 6.0 mill levy strikes a balance between financial feasibility and visible results

Transparency and Accountability

Should the levy pass, Jefferson Township will provide regular updates on how funds are spent, which roads are scheduled for work, and what progress is being made—ensuring residents stay informed every step of the way.
